How we did the lighting

When it came to the production side of our work, we found the lighting the hardest part of the mise-en-scene to get right. We had to use quite an innovative technique to get the lighting as to how we wanted it.

Originally, the dark alley-way which our two protagonists get abducted in, was literally pitch-black, therefore we needed to think how to get our lighting right for filming. We used factors such as vehicles headlights to get some of the lighting effects, like the part where the shadows of the girls walk past the wall.

We also used sensor lights to light up the narrow parts of the alley-way, like when one of our protagonists, Gabi, runs down the alley. The sensor lights were really awkward to get working and it took us many shots to get the right lighting for it. We literally had to have someone waving to the sensor lights in an off-camera position to keep the lights on.

And this was how we managed to get the lighting the way we wanted for our production, "Shadow".
