Today we went to our location with a stills camera to finish off capturing the pictures for our recce. Afterwards we went to upload them onto the PCs. We also added more things to our shotlist and storyboard. Hopefully we will be able to begin shooting our production next week providing that everything else goes well and is completed. In the mean-time we aim to complete our storyboard and our shotlist before we begin filming. Gemma and Gabi were ill on this day, the poor things, So James ( ;D ) and Kash went to do the recce shoot at our location.

Today, We started making our storyboard for our main production and also started our shotlist. We also watched openings from various other films to gain ideas for our main task. We have decided on our main task and just need to finish off our storyboard and shotlist before we begin shooting the prodcution. We also checked out the location of where we will be filming.

Today we finally completed our Preliminary task and re-searched a few other former AS student's media videos to get ideas for our main task. During the process of the lesson we got a lot accomplished and we will now be focusing on our main task.

Foundation Portfolio evaluation
Preliminary Task
Name: x2 Group 4
Names of other group members: Kash, James, Gemma and Gabi. :)
What We learnt about the Cameras and Editing software during the preliminary task!
We learnt how to use the tripod effectively and also when to use the hand held camera technique. Using our skills learnt from our trip with Mrs Smith and Mr Fennel to the ‘Garment District’ area, we could frame our shots so that they would look professional. We also learnt that it was best to use the tripod when panning the camera, to follow the action more steadily. Hand held shots were used when filming shots which didn’t have much movement but we cut this out because it looked messy and un-professional as the camera was shakey.
In the filming and editing of our project, Some aspects worked well, however other aspects could have been improved!
During filming, we wasted no time in beginning to film. Since nobody was afraid of the camera we could progress onto the preliminary straight away. Mrs Smith said our filming was great, however we did break the 180 rule on the shot reverse shot clip. During editing, Kash and James were very experienced, and were teaching Gabi and Gemma, so that they would soon become experts too! Some problems were to do with the audio when capturing the film from the camera, but this problem was solved soon after.
How we have used a shot/ reverse shot combination in our film!
Our shot reverse shot sequence was filmed from over the shoulder shots of Kash and James’ interview. We filmed it from James’ shoulder first, and then had to film from Kash’ opposite shoulder, so we didn’t break the 180 degree rule again.
How we achieved match cuts during the editing process!
We didn’t use any match cuts during our preliminary task.
What we learnt from breaking the 180 degree rule!
We accidentily broke it and then had to go and re-shoot half of the clip, switching the shoulder for which we didn’t shoot from previously. We learnt to watch over our clips in more detail to avoid this problem in the future.

Today we logged and captured the rest of our footage for our preliminary task. James, Gabi and Gemma edited the clip but encountered a problem with the audio. The sound was present on the camera but not on Final Cut Pro. We completed arranging all of our video, but just needed to get the sound back and since Mr Fennel was in a meeting we was unable to sort this problem. Kash was helping another group to capture their film and teaching them how to edit since he and James already have experience on using Final Cut Pro and the cameras. We now need to complete our Foundation Portfolio Evaluation.

Tuesday 2nd February 2010
Today we finished off shooting for our preliminary task and nearly finished editing it, Until a problem occured. Mrs Smith watched the near-finished piece of our preliminary task and noticed a minor problem. We broke the 180 degree rule and therefore we needed to go out and re-shoot about half of our pre-liminary task.
We sorted this problem out quickly and managed to completely finish off our filming for the preliminary task. It is unlikely we will have to go out and re-shoot again for the rest of this task. Gabi filmed James and Kash excellently and managed to frame it well. This mean't that she is getting better at filming. :D
